Badrinath Dham Welcomes Over 20 Lakh Pilgrims in 2026, Sets New Yatra Milestone

Date:

Badrinath Dham is among the most popular pilgrimage sites for Hindus in India, which has seen a surge in the number of pilgrim tourists visiting it in the Char Dham Yatra of 2026. According to an article published on October 14, more than 20.13 lakhs of pilgrims have visited the holy site, setting another record in its pilgrim history.

The increasing number of pilgrims reflects the significance of religious tourism in Uttarakhand. Although there is cold weather in the Himalayas, the site has continued attracting pilgrims seeking blessings of Badri Vishal.

Badrinath Yatra Crosses the 20-Lakh Mark

During the 2026 pilgrimage season, there have been a large number of pilgrims who have visited Badrinath. According to the report by Amar Ujala, the total number of pilgrims visiting the destination until October 12 amounted to 20,13,491 out of which 10,436 were pilgrims visiting the temple that day.

This information is crucial as the pilgrimage season still had about one month left until its end. Therefore, based on the weather conditions, roads availability, and temple schedule, there might be more pilgrims who visit this destination.

In addition, the increasing number of pilgrims is another manifestation of popularity of Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.

Pitru Paksha Attracts Thousands of Devotees

Among the major factors contributing to the influx of visitors in October is Pitru Paksha, which is the time when a majority of Hindu families observe rituals dedicated to their ancestors.

The Brahma Kapal located at Badrinath Dham by the side of the Alaknanda River is a popular spot where pind daan and tarpan rituals are performed. This attracts pilgrims not only to pay homage to their ancestors but also to visit the main temple.

According to an article published on October 11 in the news channel ‘Aaj Tak,’ 28,094 devotees visited Badrinath on October 10 during Sarva Pitru Amavasya. The number of people who visited up to that point stands at 19,85,318.

The high influx during this period shows that Badrinath is visited both for temple darshan and rituals.

Growing Religious Tourism in Uttarakhand

The rise in pilgrims is very significant to the tourism industry of Uttarakhand. Religious sites help in generating the demand for various tourism related services like hotels, restaurants, transport services, guides, etc.

The fact that Badrinath is located in the Himalayan region makes it more important to make good travel plans. The traveler needs to consider all aspects like weather, mountain roads, temperatures, accommodations, etc.

Having many pilgrims can put a lot of pressure on the transportation system as well. Crowd management, safety, medical care, sanitation, and travel information become important at this time.

What Travellers Should Know Before Visiting Badrinath

Travelers planning to visit should ensure that they get updated about the schedule of the temple, weather forecasts, and road conditions prior to leaving. Mountain weather may change unexpectedly, especially towards the latter part of the pilgrimage period.

Travelers should have warm clothing, proper footwear, medical supplies, and identity documents. It will also be wise for travelers to budget extra time during travel and follow the guidelines provided by the concerned authorities.

Pilgrims are advised to refer to the website of the Badrinath Yatra of Chamoli District Administration.

Outlook for the 2026 Pilgrimage Season

Reaching the 20-lakh mark has been a landmark achievement for Badrinath Dham. The high attendance during the pilgrimage season signifies the importance of the temple in terms of religion and the tourism industry in Uttarakhand.

But the actual number of people who will visit the holy place this season will depend upon the future pilgrimage plan and travel conditions. The travelers should not consider things to be as usual.

With increasing numbers of pilgrims visiting Badrinath from all parts of the country, it has become important to make proper arrangements for a safe pilgrimage journey.
